On the afternoon of November 8, the opening ceremony of the 70th Anniversary Exhibition of China’s Civil Aviation Development and the publishing ceremony of the first book on the 70 years’ development of China civil aviation was held in the Civil Aviation Museum. Feng Zhenglin, Administrator of CAAC, and Cui Xiaofeng, Deputy Administrator, attended the ceremony, and Dong Zhiyi, Deputy Administrator, presided over the ceremony. Nearly 200 representatives from CAAC entities and other entities including associations of the civil aviation industry attended the ceremony. CAAC, together with China Civil Aviation Publishing House, has officially published the two books of China Civil Aviation History and From Cabin to the World, China Civil Aviation Cabin Crew in the New Era. 70 Year Collection of Civil Aviation compiled by the General Affairs Department of CAAC was also released at the ceremony. CAAC leaders presented these three books to the representatives of civil aviation staff and flight attendants attending the ceremony. Li Jun, Chairman of CATA attended the ceremony and introduced those books.

China Civil Aviation History is co-authored by Li Jun, Chairman of CATA, and Lin Minghua, former Assistant Chairman of CATA, publication and distribution of which was listed as one of the key projects of CAAC this year to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of People’s Republic of China. This book is the first one that comprehensively depicts the development story of China's civil aviation for the past one hundred years, especially since the reform and opening up, till China has become the second largest air transportation system in the world. The book describes the development process of civil aviation in China through three chapters: the difficult start before the founding of People’s Republic of China, the arduous work in the early stage after the founding of People’s Republic of China, and the sustained and rapid development since the reform and opening up.

Chairman Li Jun introduced the writing process of the China Civil Aviation History, and shared some of his thinking during the writing process. He pointed out that development of civil aviation after the founding of People’s Republic of China is very different from before. It was not too late for the old China to decide to explore civil aviation, but the development was very slow because of political corruption, war and foreign invasion. However, the new China attached great importance to civil aviation development, in particular, the reform and opening-up has injected strong impetus into that process. After generations of civil aviation people forging ahead, civil aviation of China has made remarkable achievements. And in the new era, with a series of important instructions for civil aviation from President Xi Jinping, and the leadership of the CAAC, we are confident that the goal of building a powerful civil aviation will be achieved.

Li Jun, Chairman of CATA indicated that the book has received great support from the leaders of CAAC through compilation to publication, as well from colleagues of CAAC, China Civil Aviation Publishing House among others. He expressed his heartfelt thanks for this, and also hoped that the book will be loved and used, and feedbacks will be received. Chairman Li Jun also announced that, according to the advice of CAAC, during the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and China’s civil aviation development, CATA has organized 33 lectures on civil aviation history to its members and will continue this effort. The Civil Aviation University of China is going to work on and publish the English version of the book.

The book From Cabin to the World - China's Civil Aviation Cabin Crew in the New Era is planned and published by the Cabin Service Committee of CATA on the basis of a series of “From Cabin to the World” activities. The book described the development process of China's civil aviation cabin crew team, reviewed the history, looked at the present and looked forward to the future. From the "18 sisters" at the beginning of the founding of People’s Republic of China to the new models thereafter, the book demonstrated a team with tradition inheritance, deep-rooted knowledge, and commitment. This team has based on their own job realities, practiced the socialist core values, acted upon the contemporary civil aviation spirit, and lived up to the extraordinary heroism in ordinary jobs. This book is not only a good professional textbook, but also a publicity material for the industry. For flight attendants, this book can deepen their ideological understanding, facilitate mutual learning, improve professional skills, and help them make greater contributions to the building of a strong civil aviation country. For general public, this book can also provide them with deeper understanding and recognition of the civil aviation industry and the contemporary civil aviation spirit.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the development of civil aviation of the People's Republic of China and the historic “Uprising of the Two Airlines”, as well as the 110th anniversary of the first aircraft manufactured by Chinese, and the 100th anniversary of the decision by the old Chinese government to develop civil aviation. The publication of the two books, China Civil Aviation History and From Cabin to the World—China’s Civil Aviation Cabin Crew in the New Era, is not only a tribute to the new China and the new China's civil aviation, but also to the builders of the new China's civil aviation industry.
